Nail art look: How to apply striping tape

You may or may not have heard of ‘striping tape’ but this little beauty opens so many more interesting nail art looks to even the most novice nail artists.

In this tutorial, we’re going to take you through how to use striping tape in a very simple way, as an introduction. Of course if you’re feeling confident you can go totally wild with the stuff! This time we’re showing you how to create a simple look using tape, nude polish and a steady hand.

For this look you will need:

-Nail colour of your choice

-Top coat, base coat

-Striping tape

-Orangewood stick (optional)

Start out with a clear base coat and once this has dried, apply the colour. You may need to apply a few layers to get complete coverage but be patient, and once that’s done allow your nails to dry completely.

Once your base and colour coat are dry you’re ready for the tape.

Place the tape across the nail horizontally taking care keep the line straight in relation to the rest of the nail. Then carefully cut the tape to length; it’s best to keep it within the parameters of your nail colour coat, if it goes over it won’t stick down properly and this can cause issues with the tape peeling away from the nail when you have finished. Once that’s done, use an orange stick or tweezers to thoroughly press the tape to the nail paying special attention to the ends so they don’t peel back.

To finish the look simply slick over a layer of two of top coat and allow to dry.

If you have any slips over your cuticles just use a cotton bud dipped in a nail polish remover to clean it up.

And there you have it – fab nails in a flash using striping tape.

How would you use it to create a new look for you nails?
